Wasabi Plant – Daruma – Wasabia Japonica ‘Daruma’
The Wasabi Plant grows naturally along stream beds in mountain river valleys in Japan. It is sometimes called Japanese Horseradish and is commonly used when eating Sushi.
Most Wasabi products in grocery stores are not real wasabi but a mix of horseradish, mustard and green coloring. This is due to the length of time it takes to cultivate real Wasabi and the price of real Wasabi.
Wasabi likes FULL SHADE, NO DIRECT SUNLIGHT.
Best to grow either under trees where there is full shade or greenhouses with shade cloth creating the shade of the forest. If in a hotter area then fans are used to cool down the greenhouse to no higher than 80°.
Grow medium is best with well drained soil and not sitting in stagnant water.
